I have to confess I am obsessed with glitter! It’s like a weakness for me. That’s why I couldn’t resist making this DIY glitter mason jar.
You may or may not know that my daughter and I love crafting. We could spend hours in the craft store and still be on the first isle. Yep, were craft store junkies! LOL!
I guess my love for crafting really comes from my early childhood though. I was a girl scout from preschool til high school and my Mom was my assistant troup leader.
Every week we would do some craft for the season and it was my favorite part of the week. My head troup leader was like a craft gurue and so was my Momma.
They taught us the funnest DIY projects and we had the best times giggling and just crafting away.
Now that I’m an adult, Mom, Nurse, I guess I just feel like age shouldn’t matter, everyone should have a weekly crafting time to unwind and just enjoy being in the moment. Right?!? DIY Glitter Mason Jar
Supplies needed:
1 mason jar or any clear jar
acrylic paint in color of chose
loose glitter in color of chose
high gloss Modge Podge
paint sponge
start with the plain mason jar

Here’s the jar that I picked up from Hobby Lobby. It was $1.99 and I loved how plain and simple the jar is. Easy to paint. I have the typical old school mason jars as well, but I really liked these for the project.

These are the paints and sponge brushes I used(also from Hobby Lobby). I made a gray with the black and white to use as the under coat as I thought it would look good with the silver glitter on top of it, but any color you like is perfect.
Paint the mason jar with the acrylic paint color of choice

I painted the jar half way with the gray paint at an angle as I wanted a chic look in the end. However, you could paint the jar whatever way you like. The whole jar, shapes, stripes, etc. I then set it on a paper plate to dry.

Let the mason jar dry
Add a layer of modge podge
Next, I was concerned that the acrylic paint could come off in the future so I added a coat of high gloss modge podge on top of the gray paint. The modge podge looks like white school glue almost, but don’t worry it dries clear. Note: there is a high gloss modge podge which I used as I wanted a blinged out effect, but there is also a matte modge podge if you are after a more subtle look.
Immediately add the loose glitter of choice to the wet modge Podge
I then immediately(before the modge podge dried) sprinkle glitter on to the wet modge podge. Note that anywhere you have the wet modge podege the glitter will stick. I then set the jar back on the paper plate to dry.
Let dry and repeat one more time if desired
Once dry I repeated the process with another layer of modge podge and a second layer of glitter. Again, set aside to dry. When it was completely dry I added a top layer of just modge podge this seals the glitter so it’s not falling off all over the house and you.
finished glitter mason jar
Here’s the finished look!

Or so I thought it was finished LOL! My daughter did not agree. See, she wanted to use the glitter mason jar to hold her makeup brushes, so she added a little something extra! That’s my little maker.
add a floral lid
She took the lid and hot glued loose flowers all around the outer rim. Of course I helped, see below.

So here is the final, FINAL DIY Glitter Mason Jar! It’s so adorable. I think I may have to make a whole set here very soon.
