Paper Dalia flower
Dalia flowers are so unique and beautiful.
Have you seen these amazing giant paper dalia flowers? OMG I am loving them girly.
From the first one of these giant paper flowers that I spotted I knew I would be making quite a few.
But I couldn’t find the right style giant Paper Dalia Flower for our home.
However, I’ve become obsessed with greige lately and I started thinking about how I could put the two together(Dalia giant paper flower & greige) to create a more neutral home decor piece. Greige is so universal. If you arenât familiar with the term greige itâs a combo color of beige and gray. Itâs amazing.
I’ve seen other DIY Dalia paper flowers all over the internet in bright colors and fun print, but they werenât really what I wanted with my farmhouse, rustic, country vibe I have going on in our home.
I wanted something I could make and actually use year round that really added to the space, but didnât take it over.

I needed to create a Greige Dalia Paper Flower!
How to create a dalia paper flower
Supplies:
1 sturdy paper plate (I used a left over birthday cake plate from the dollar store)
Card stock paper (any paper will work, but I used greige colored card stock from Hobby Lobby about 20 sheets)
scissors
hot glue gun and glue sticks
1 (about 3 inches) piece of twine or string
Create large paper squares
Firstly, to make the cones for the Dalia giant paper flower you must create a square piece of paper for a template to cut out more squares.
To create the largest square template that I needed for the first layer, I simple folded the paper on it’s self making a square and cut off the excess paper.
I then unfolded the sheet of paper and used that now square piece of paper as a template to create my outer layer of the flower.
VERY IMPORTANT
Do not use the piece of paper that you folded or your cone will have a crease in it.

Create the large ring of cones
Next, I took one of the large square pieces of paper and created a cone and hot glued the shape into place in a circle on to the upside down paper plate. Start with the outer edge of the plate and glue on the cones all the way around.
See pictures below.
This will create your first layer of your diy Dalia paper flower.

Once the cone was glued into it’s shape I then hot glued the smaller end of the cone to the back of the paper plate in a circle around the entire plate completing the first layer.
Be mindful in how you are spacing your cones. You want them to be in a nice round circle and slightly touching each other to create a nice full flower look.
Create medium squares
For the DIY Dalia Paper Flower to be layered properly I had to create the next layer of cones slightly smaller. To do so I simply created a smaller square template.
Once again I took a full sheet of paper. This time I needed a smaller square, so I folding the paper in half creating two rectangles and cut the paper in half.
Next I took one of the half sheets and folding the edge up creating a square and cutting off the excess paper just like before, but a smaller version.
This gave me a half sheet sized square template to cut out for the second layer on cones.

Creates the medium layer of cones
You then repeat the previous process by using the half sheet square template to cut out square. Then you hot glue the square papers into cones and then glue them onto the paper plate in a circle as the next (2nd) (medium) layer of the Dalia paper flower.

Here is a picture(see above) of the first(whole sheet squares) and second(half sheet squares) layers of glued on cones in the DIY Dalia paper flower.
Create the small squares
The last layer of cones needed to be smaller then the first two layers.
To create the square template for the third and smallest layer I folded the paper in half and then in half again creating a quarter sheet and then cut out 4 rectangles from the one piece of paper.
I then created a square by folding the paper over on it’s self once again and cutting off the excess paper just like before, but much smaller.
I then used the quarter sheet sized square template to cut out the squares for the third layer.
Create small cones gor the third layer of the diy paper dalIa Flower
Once the quarter sheet squares were cut out, I once again hot glued them into cones and then glued the cones in a circle on the plate and also filled in the rest of the center of the paper plate with the smaller cones creating a full and complete diy Dalia paper flower.

To hang the flower on the wall I hot glued both ends of a piece of twine in a half circle on the back of the paper flower which was the front of the paper plate.
Then I hung the DIY Greige Dalia giant paper flower on the wall of our home, but I really loved it out on our sun porch too! Needless to say I will be making quite a few more for all over!
Here it is up on the sun porch!
