How to Make DIY summer Mason Jars With tea light candles
Summer time is here and it’s one of my favorite times of the year. It reminds me of camp outs with the family with roasted s’mores(with all the chocolate goodness that comes with it). And before you know it Fourth of July is here with backyard BBQ’s and fireworks of course.
My daughter and I couldn’t wait, so we started summer a little early with these super easy and adorable DIY Summer Mason Jars. We will be using them this summer on our wrap around deck with tea light candles in the bottom of them or maybe even citronella candles to keep the mosquitos at bay.

Start with a mason jar
To start making your DIY Summer Mason Jar you will need a clean dry jar of your choice.

These are my favorite jars as they are super smooth and easy to paint. They actually are from the Dollar Store. But Ball Mason Jars are so beautiful as well. See linked picture above.
Paint your summer mason jar anyway you like

My daughter and I picked to use classic Fourth of July colors as they remind us of summer.
Red white and Blue!
You can use any colors you want though. Note that most colors need 2-3 coats with a few minutes to dry in between for them to look nice and smooth.
I prefer a foam brush as it covers the jar more evenly, but you will need small brushes for polka dots or other random prints/designs.
Allow painted mason jar to dry
Give your painted mason jar about thirty to sixty minutes to dry completely.
Apply a layer of Mod Podge to you custom DIY Summer Mason Jar
Consider if you would like a matte or gloss finish and pick the Mod Podge of your choice. This is not mandatory, but seals the acrylic paint for a little bit better lasting paint and color.
I chose a matte on some and a gloss on others. Please note the clear portion of the jars were left un-coated. I only added Mod Podge over the actual painted areas.

Decide how to use your diy summer mason jar
There are multiple ways to use your DIY Summer Mason Jar. Storage, home decor, outdoors decor.
We added tea candles in the bottom of our DIY Summer Mason Jars to make mini summer lanterns for our wrap around porch(placed on the tables for safety). Please note the lids must stay off the jars if used with tea light candles.
I love how these turned out! What do you think?
